  • Ha Long Bay was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1994. Due to inadequate sewage treatment facilities on the island, the bay had high levels of trash and stench caused by the wastewater that flowed in.
Building a sewer system on the island was impractical, so the JOKASO wastewater treatment system was introduced as an alternative.
